The Wild Gardener

Helping to create the garden of your dreams

Hi, I'm Rebecca

Based in Barley, on the North Herts/ South Cambs border, 18 months ago I changed careers, stepping out of the classroom and into the garden to pursue my passion for the outdoors and nature and to help others create gardens that enhance their homes and lives all year round. I love the optimism of gardening, imagining what the summer will look like through the cold frosty branches of winter, and reaping the rewards of the first spring bulbs emerging following the early autumn planting. I love that gardens are never ‘finished’, or ‘perfect’, but ebb and flow with the seasonal year.I have achieved an RHS Level 2 qualification in Principles and Practice of Horticulture (July 2024, Shuttleworth College) and have completed a number of courses on planting design, seasonality and sustainability. I am fully insured.

Services

I am available for a full range of garden maintenance services including weeding, pruning, lawn mowing, vegetable garden and cutting garden sowing and upkeep and planning and delivering planting schemes. I can provide regular garden maintenance, one off visits if your garden is in need of a tidy up, or care for your garden while you are away on holiday.
Whether you want to work alongside me to learn more about how to get what you want out of your garden, or delegate the ‘work’ to me for you to enjoy, I am happy to provide a bespoke service so you can enjoy the outside space of your dreams.

Gardening for Wildlife

We live in a time when our impact on the natural world has never been so sharply felt. We are increasingly realising the importance that our gardens are not only beautifully designed and planted, but also work in partnership with nature and help to mitigate climate change. Gardening in a sustainable way is also more economical as it involves using recycled materials, reducing the use of natural resources, and requires less maintenance. I can help you create a space that is a sustainable garden buzzing with life.

Social and Therapeutic Garden Project

I am passionate about the benefits of gardens and gardening for mental and physical health. For over twelve months I have volunteered at a charitable therapeutic garden for adults with mental health difficulties where I saw first hand the life changing effect a therapy garden can have on its members. I am now well on my way to setting up a community garden in the village in which I live. More information can be found at www.barleycommunitygarden.co.uk
